Welcome to the website for Friends of Fort Harrod

Fort Harrod holds a special place in Kentucky history as the first permanent settlement in the area that would become the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Founded by James Harrod in 1774, a reconstructed fort occupies land near the original site in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. Park manager, David Coleman is making great strides in making Fort Harrod a “re-enactor friendly” historic site.

“We are very pleased and excited with the entire weekend of our annual Settlement & Raid. We had great presentations, a massive increase in re-enactor participation and an over 60% increase in spectators. The staff at Old Fort Harrod State Park, together with our volunteers, led by John Curry, did an outstanding job in giving the public and the re-enactors a great event. We are looking forward to next years Settlement & Raid and it is our mission to make it even better. The dates for 2011 will be June 18th and 19th, see you here.”
