Settlers built forts or stations in early Kentucky for safety from Indians.
But for interpretive reasons it is important to show not only life in an 18th century fort but how the Indians lived also. Re-Enactors gathered at Fort Harrod this fall to lay the ground work for an Indian village behind the fort. Jesse DeEsch, Tommy Barnett, Dennis Muzzy and Tyler Green fashioned willow poles into lodges. Natives would cover these with cat tail mats or bark mats as will native re-enactors when they visit Fort Harrod.
